[ So, yeah, maybe he had been abducted by aliens. Or he wasn't feeling well. Or Something. After their little Netbook discussion about writing, during their ridiculous mandated arts and craft time, Sanemi sidles right on up. He isn't exactly as calm and collected about it as he might have liked, but it also isn't like he's nervous to talk to Tengen.
[He's still doing his mad science in arts and crafts, so the table may look. A bit odd, with powders and metal filings and wax and easily flammable vessels to put the above things into, but Sanemi does get his attention easily, at least.]
[ Looking down at the mess on the table makes him... almost immediately second guess his decision. He stares at the collection of items for almost too long. ]
[ He's getting the strangest urge to laugh. What the hell has this place turned him into? He does make a sound which is dangerously close to a breath of a laugh, but his face doesn't give it away. ]
[ Someway, somehow, Tengen will happen upon an impressive heap of iridescent gemstones, some reminiscent of the ones attached to his eyepatch, tied neatly together with a pink bow.
A faintly sweet and floral scent will accompany them, but no note. How can this be a peace offering without a note...? Oh well. ]
[Note or no note, it's a peace offering he appreciates greatly!
In fact, a few days later, the Ninju mouse will run up to her with a surprisingly simple gift box! Inside, she'll find an eyepatch made of soft leather and cotton, embellished similarly to his, but instead of large gems, he's obviously taken care to pick out the smallest of the stones she sent him to make cute butterfly patterns. He even took the time to sort out what kind of iridescence they have, so they can be in shades of green and pink and purple and not... you know, a mess.
He knows her eye isn't entirely blinded, but he also knows it surely needs a rest from time to time.]
[Kyojuro decides very quickly that he does not like the way that Tengen is talking about himself. It's why he marches himself straight to his room. There's a chance that Shinobu might be in, but worst comes, he'll just drag the other hashira out to have this conversation. And if not, then at least they'll have some privacy.
One way or another, there's a polite knock on Tengen's door not too long after his last message in the book. Kyojuro waits politely for the time being, but he'll start pressing if it seems he's being ignored.]
[There is the fleeting thought to ignore him, to ignore the issue at hand, to not allow him to pry, but... even if he ducked out the window, even if he didn't answer the door, the conversation would come sooner or later - and, likely, at a time where he couldn't easily dodge it.
So he answers the door, alone, and steps aside to welcome Kyojuro in.
There's no pretending he's just here for something more pleasant, and the almost sheepish smile he offers is proof enough of that.]
[Silently, Kyojuro slips into the room. It's a testament to just how grave he considers this whole thing, if he's rendered silent by the affair. He maintains the quiet until the door is shut properly, leaving them to their privacy.
Only then does he whirl around and glower at the other man. There's a tension in his posture, and a faint tremor to his hands. It isn't that often that he gets so worked up, but perhaps it's only natural when it comes to his loved ones.]
Why do you believe yourself to be damned, Tengen? Tell me.
[The silence speaks volumes, brings a gravity that tells him in no uncertain terms there will be no flippant dodging of the subject, no quick and clever distractions.
He catches the glower, and abruptly can't hold Kyojuro's gaze, sees the tremor in his hands and can't bring himself to reach out. Not immediately, at least. Not when it comes to this wall that's been between them since before they met.
It should have come down sooner.
It shouldn't have even gotten the chance to be seen.]
There's too much blood on my hands to dare to think otherwise. Innocent blood, Kyojuro.
[Kyojuro is not unfamiliar with this sense of self-loathing, not by a long shot. And while he would never dare draw comparisons between Tengen and Akaza, he doesn't need to. It is not his partner that Kyojuro's mind goes to, but their shared colleague. Obanai, too, held a particular distaste for his own past life. Having grown up in proximity to the other man, Kyojuro had been privy to more than his fair share of sordid details. And while he could not say the same about Tengen and the details of his background, it was easy enough to surmise a great deal of bloodshed considering his previous profession.
Which is why, despite the previous urgency in his voice, Kyojuro lowers his tone. It's closer to something one might use for a wild animal — soft and reassuring. No sudden movements or raises in pitch here, thank you.]
None of us are without our mistakes, Tengen. Our regrets. [Says Kyojuro Rengoku, man with a pristine record.] I do not know what shape your past took, but I am confident in saying that whatever innocent blood you have spilled, you have made up for with the lives you have saved.
[ It isn't often that Muichiro seeks out the older hashira on his own. There's a lot to do around the town, and while he wouldn't say he has a lot of friends, the people are friendly enough to humor him from time to time when he's not enforcing his own training regime on himself. Today is different. He went out of his way to find Tengen and get his attention. ]
[Muichiro rarely sought him out, specifically, before they came here, so it is a bit of a surprise to see him do so now, but... honestly, after some of the talks they'd had, and given the reality of their present situation, maybe he should be less surprised.
It's good to see him, regardless, and he does meet him with a bright smile.]
[He brightens a bit at that, actually - both that there was someone who could help, and that Muichiro knew who that someone was to ask... and that he asked him to help.
He's really not that difficult to read sometimes...]
What, you want up on my shoulders?
[It's teasing, but like. He's already heading that way-]
[ If this were before his memory loss he would have just done it himself, but he has the ability to understand emotional wants and needs again. It's a bit difficult to strike a balance. He doesn't want to be seen as weak. ]
[ In some nebulous point of time during the month of May, Sanemi will come poking around to WHEREVER Tengen is holed up at this nebulous point of time. Maybe it's the new house!
... because he's a little shit and is not normal, he is going to try and get the drop on him. Literal, in this case. Dropping down from above and everything. ]
[At some nebulous point in the month of May... Sanemi will be able to get the drop on him! Wow!
...Well, for the most part. Tengen will realize he's there with juuuuust enough time for Sanemi to see a very !!! expression and an attempt to catch him, but like. That's it, wow.]
[ Wow, fuck everything else this automatically made it the best day ever. Sanemi graciously allows himself to be caught, since he'd already achieved his goal, and even assists by wrapping his arms around Tengen. He's grinning like a fucking fool, though. SO wide. ]
[Oh, well, okay, getting got isn't so terrible if it means seeing that wild grin and being held like this. The catch assist is appreciated, and he even does a little spin with him for the drama of it all.]
[ Convincing Kyojuro to peel away from the party had been a... rousing success. Emphasis on rousing! Sanemi is practically vibrating out of his fucking skin from the moment they leave the party, curling crescents into his palms from his clenched fists.
... they might have intended the starting without him to be a tease initially, but Sanemi's impatience gets the better of him the moment they scrape out even a smidgen of privacy. He's done worse in far more public spaces before, so – yeah, don't mind him dragging Tengen down for a bruising kiss.
It isn't his fault! They'd been teasing him for what feels like ages. ]
[In some ways, even Tengen is surprised when they manage to convince Kyojuro to leave with them... of sorts. Sure, he claimed to need to do one last sweep of the guests present, but... that was fine. That was better than expected.
And as for what starting without him might mean... It could have been anything from getting mildly handsy in his bed while they waited to... well, to this, to Sanemi barely containing himself until they're just out of sight. It's cute. It makes Tengen chuckle into the kiss even as he returns it, deepens it.
And if Sanemi is too distracted to notice him take full advantage of being pulled down to his level to hook his arms around his upper thighs, then the surprised reaction he'll surely have to being scooped up will be more than worth the effort.]
[ He likely could have waited. He would have settled if he'd been chided rather than encouraged, but he'd had a fairly good feeling that Tengen wouldn't chide him. When he only laughs against Sanemi's mouth before he kisses him back, a thrill runs through him and curls in his stomach.
Okay. He should probably examine some things about himself. At some point in the near future. Whatever.
Tengen gets his surprise and then some. Sanemi is not a small man by most definitions; being lifted so easily, and so suddenly, is beginning to become a bit of a dangerous turn-on. His breathing hitches, obvious and embarrassing, but it doesn't deter him from looping his arms around Tengen's neck. Hell, he even redoubles his efforts.
... maybe he should be more worried about the chance of being discovered. Fuck it. ]
[The thing about could have, would have waited is this - they're both still independently into each other, and Kyojuro didn't ask them to wait, so there's no clear need to. Simple as that. Sure, they could be discovered, but...
Well, they're in the inn. In a space where the only people who could discover them are also going to or from their rooms. Really, the two of them dashing off to Tengen's room was obvious enough about their intent without everything else they were up to, so... why not, when the bigger danger is the fact that it's just... kind of hard to see around Sanemi when he's giving many very enthusiastic kisses. Truly Tengen's life is suffering right now.
So, yeah, obviously they make it just fine.]
Get the door?
[He's not exactly the most willing to put him down now, not when the prospect of seeing Sanemi's reaction to being thrown on the bed is so close, especially after how much of an effect just picking him up had.
...Who's birthday is it again? All three of theirs? Sounds right.]
